Back to topThere are 4 boss cars to unlock in the game: 1969 Dodge Charger, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Nissan Skyline R34 GTR. These cars are unlocked by beating them in Boss Races and are placed in a special location in your Pocket Garage. The boss car the game chooses to race against you depends on the level of the race and the car you are using.. so if you aren't racing against the car you want, you need to change the level of the race or the car you are using. You need to defeat the same boss car in multiple different Boss Races in order to unlock that car.

If you are having trouble figuring out which cars to use for what event, cars with high top speeds/acceleration are good for drag races; cars with good controls/handling are best for drifting; and cars with a balance of the three are good for normal racing.
In Lincoln Connector an easy way to win is to simply force the computer into the first shortcut of the race. Once the computer is in the shortcut the car will freeze for a period of time. This freezing can even last for up to a lap.
when you are about to go onto a drift platform area, try to get heaps of speed then just tap 'R' to get a good score.
towards the begining of the race if you start out ahead of the other cars; when the cars start to come up on the side of you change lanes and bump into them. this will give you a boost, push you back into your lane and slow the bumped car.
When the countdown starts in a drag race, rev the acceleration all the way up while stopping for a couple of split seconds between the 3 seconds. When the race actually starts and if done correctly, it should say 'Perfect Launch'. If done a little late, it should say 'Good Launch'.
In the Nitrous Run Race, if your time is about two to four seconds from expiring, aim the car at the gate and use all the nitrous remaining. Even if the timer runs out, your car will keep going enough without the gas and may pass the gate. If so, the timer will start again and your nitrous tank will be refilled, allowing you to continue with the race.
I just finished this awesome game and wanted to share some tips:
o You CAN purchase a Boss car, and win it as a Bonus Car later, despite what you may read elsewhere, and there's no worry about having room to park it.
o As mentioned elsewhere, you can get a Japanese bonus car by beating it using an American car in the Pro and Master BOSS races, as well as Autocross. (I had no luck with drag, but good luck with Autocross.)
o I had a tough time winning the Skyline, since it's a pretty awesome car, and I just couldn't beat it with a 'vette (even DJ Wes's) on the longer Master circuit BOSS race. I was able to beat them on the Master Rally Relay and the Drag, but still didn't get it. I couldn't win against it using the 'vette in Autocross, but after winning all of the perf parts and applying them to all of my 23 cars, I found that amazingly, the car with the best handling was the Neon! I used it to win the Skyline in Autocross race #10 (BOSS) on the 2nd or 3rd try.
o Get the Miata early, and use it to win as many points and unlock as many parts as possible and buy them. Then go for the Eclipse to finish the Drifting event (I think that's all I needed for that), and don't forget that something smaller, like the Neon, is better for the denser Drifting races with lots of poles.
o Then get the RX-7 and upgrade it as much as possible. This is a great bang-for-buck vehicle.
o Go for the carbon hood and other aerodynamic parts and big wheels since they're free and can't hurt. Apply these mods to all cars -- it may help -- I'm not entirely sure about this one though.
o When you can afford it, the next car to get is the Skyline. I think this is the best overall car in the game, and you can win almost any of the remaining races with it.
o For Rally Relay, note that since you're starting from a dead stop on every lap, use a car with great acceleration. Also, you're getting a new car, and thus a new tank of NOS on every lap too, so make sure to use all of it.
o For NOS Run events, use an American car since they're heavy and don't flip as easily, and make sure to be in a drift if you're about to hit a wall -- you won't crash, or at least the bump won't be as bad.
o For drag, the tip about tapping the NOS key does work. Use the 'vette if you've won that bonus car.
o Note that you can stat a drift not just by using the e-brake, but also by using the brake or tapping the gas. Which method you use depends on the situation -- you need all three skills.
o Be in a controlled drift when on slippery cobblestones. This will avoid a surprising sudden loss of traction when you're not expecting it.
o Don't use the first shortcut on some courses after the first lap.
o Don't use some shortcuts at all -- watch what happenes to you vs. the opponents who use them -- some shortcuts just aren't better.
That's about it! Have fun, and good luck!

The DONOTS: 'We got the noise'
Soulwax: 'Any Minute Now'
In drag racing if you tap the nitrous button instead of holding the button down your car will accelerate at a faster speed.
On the nitrous run levels, let off the gas through tight turns. Otherwise, you will hit the wall and flip your car.
